(University of Pennsylvania) Researchers find a new set of geometric motifs that can create self-locking, lightweight, durable structures out of soft materials. The kirigami-inspired designs can support 14,000 times their weight and, because they don’t require adhesives or fasteners, can easily be flattened and re-folded.
