(Lehigh University) In an interdisciplinary collaboration, Lehigh University researchers Nicholas Strandwitz (assistant professor of materials science and engineering) and Brandon Krick (assistant professor of mechanical engineering and mechanics) believe they’ve discovered the hardest, thinnest, most wear-resistant coatings yet–plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposited titanium and vanadium nitrides. They have received a Grant Opportunities for Academic Liasons with Industry (GOALI) award from the NSF to work with an industry partner to study what exactly makes these nitride films so good.
